Angry youths set 2 suspected robbers ablaze in Edo

BENIN CITY— BARELY 48 hours after a community leader in Igarra, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr. Aigboje Emah, petitioned the Edo State Police Commissioner and the State Security Services, SSS, over the activities of a notorious armed robber in the area, angry youths of the area apprehended the suspect and one Toyin Opashi and set the duo ablaze after they were beaten to a pulp.

The two suspects, Lamidi Sanni and Toyin Opashi, met their untimely death when the youths apprehended them after they allegedly attacked a house in the community and inflicted machete cuts on their victim.

It was also alleged that the suspects had few days earlier attacked a church in the community but were granted bail by the police in Igarra after the police claimed lack of evidence to prosecute them.

The suspects were said to have attacked a house in the area and inflicted machete cuts on their victim for trying to resist them. A son of their victim was said to have chased the suspects after the attack on his  mother.

Vigilant youths in the community assisted in apprehending the suspects.  However, after allegedly confessing to the crime and several others they committed in Auchi, Okenne in Kogi State, the youths dragged the suspects to the outskirt of the town and set them on fire.

Meanwhile, in the petition, the community lamented the activities of Lamidi and appealed to the police to take action on the issue. The petition alleged that Lamidi  had gone in and out of prison several times
