All players were expected to show up by lunchtime on Tuesday, but Mikel called to inform officials that he would only come in on Wednesday as he needed time to attend to family matters.
Team officials were unimpressed and have now handed down the fine to the player.
The other 21 invited players trained on Tuesday afternoon at the training pitch of the Abuja National Stadium, led by captain Joseph Yobo.
